Hollywood comes to Cabot Cove in Close-up on Murder, providing a new set of characters for Cabot Cove to gossip about and, of course, the requisite murder for Jessica Fletcher to solve.

The movie being made in Cabot Cove is an adaptation of one of Jessica’s books, giving her plenty of reason to be on or near the set and getting to know the cast and crew. It also offers plenty of reason for drama, as the book’s plot was based on a past incident in Cabot Cove.

A quick, cozy read, the book is hardly a thriller but there’s enough side plotting and potential motives to keep you guessing. Family drama! Hidden identities! What more could you want from daily life in Cabot Cove?

There’s also plenty of exaggerated personalities to keep the book light, with a stereotypical aging starlet diva on set and a local realtor trying desperately to break into stardom. These are just side characters, though. The main characters are Jessica and her usual crew, who combine intelligence, folksiness and nosiness - and a bit of professional work on the part of the sheriff - to figure out the culprit.
